The beginnings of a social impact movement

'Startup Blogging: Validate A Business Idea And Build Your Audience' Book by Amy Maureen Lynch 2020

Learn how I’ve used storytelling to validate business ideas and build an audience – and how you can too!

Startup Blogging: Validate A Business Idea And Build Your Audience began as a workshop explaining how my travel blog, where I began sharing my adventures from 2010 onward, living and working in Australia, Ireland, England and Canada, became the basis of a social impact movement.

It evolved from updates on relocating, integrating and building new networks in different countries, to covering my flexible work and creative processes and later difficulties navigating changing identities as a freelancer, international family and new parent.

While documenting my lived experiences bringing our first baby into business settings, making new connections, setting out to test my ideas – I expressed myself through storytelling via my blog, social media and pitching to complete strangers – not realizing I was becoming an accidental activist in real time.

This is the origin story of Mixing Babies And Business™, which has since become:

  • a newsletter published since 2018 focused on entrepreneurship, flexible and remote work with kids
  • parent-friendly ‘Babies, Business + Breakfast’ meetups in business spaces
  • DIY podcast produced from my home across six seasons, with listeners in 56 countries worldwide
  • speaking engagements for in person, hybrid and virtual stages reaching over 1.5K attendees and growing
  • parent-friendly professional development through digital products, programs and resources
  • invites to participate as a stakeholder in government relations representing parents and entrepreneurs

Start sharing your ideas out loud and building them IRL!

If you or a loved one are considering starting a business, it’s a great reminder to keep it simple, stay scrappy and create something from the power of your own words, vision and values.

Based on my own lived experiences, this book contains templates and resources to help you get your ideas out of your head and into the world…testing them in real time!

What began as storytelling, sharing my ideas, building in public, pitching, collaborating, launching, testing and tweaking has manifested as the kind of parent-friendly professional development I wish existed nearly nine years ago.

And it’s only getting started. 🚼📊

Startup Blogging: Validate A Business Idea and Build Your Audience‘ contains links to resources and templates to help you work through the exercises and action items mentioned in the book.
